Association of Children’s Culture in Finland concerned about the situation of cultural actors in Serbia and the Balkans

The Association of Children’s Culture in Finland is deeply concerned about recent developments in Serbia, particularly the detention and entry bans imposed on cultural actors from Croatia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Romania, and Albania on January 21st in Belgrade. More information on the issue can be found at Balkan Insight.

This measure comes at a time of large-scale student protests in Serbia. Young people and students face daily challenges, including various forms of repression. Independent cultural and civil society organizations are also under pressure as they support demands for justice, safety, and freedom.

The Association is concerned about the safety and freedom of cultural actors in Serbia and the Balkan region. We call on the Finnish government and the European Commission to take action to safeguard freedom of expression and the rights of cultural actors in the Balkans.
