Our established operating models

Cultural Education Plans

A cultural education plan (CEP) is an act of equality. It enables the implementation of cultural, artistic, and cultural heritage education in the municipality for every child. The CEP provides a structured pathway for cultural education in schools, from early childhood education through basic education all the way to upper secondary education. The CEP guarantees all children and young people an equal opportunity to experience art and participate in the local culture in a diverse way. The plan is drawn up and implemented in cooperation with public officials, schools and local operators in the culture and art sectors.

Art Testers

The Art Testers cultural education programme takes all Finnish 8th graders each year to visit two high-class art attractions across Finland. School groups are provided with tickets and transportation to an event, such as opera or theatre performance, a concert, or an art exhibition. The visits match well with the objectives of the school curriculum in addition to offering the students new learning environments outside the school. Cultural institutions and artists receive direct feedback from young people, which they can then use to refine their content and better engage young audiences.

Finnish Model for Leisure Activities

The national Finnish Model for Leisure Activities program integrates consultation with children and young people about their leisure interests, coordinates existing best practices, and fosters collaboration between schools and leisure activity providers. The goal of the program is to ensure that every child and young person can participate in a leisure activity connected to the school day, free of charge.

Through the Finnish Model for Leisure Activities, the Association’s members provide after-school programs for children.

Who are we?

The Association of Children’s Culture in Finland is a national network dedicated to arts education and children’s culture. The association brings together 37 professional children’s culture organisations across Finland, forming a nationwide network of cultural centres and operators working with children, young people and families.

The network’s activities are guided by the Quality Manual for Children’s Arts and Culture and aligned with Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognises every child’s right to participate in cultural and artistic life.

The association strengthens professional competence in the field of children’s culture, promotes collaboration and visibility, and supports the development of high-quality cultural services for children and young people across Finland. Its goal is that every child and young person has equal opportunities to experience and practice art and culture, and that arts and culture form a natural part of every child’s education and everyday life.

The association’s strategic values are quality, equal opportunities, child-centredness and art.
